Built in 1880 to keep people moving. Rebuilt in the Laurentians to make them stay.

The building went up in 1880 as the railway station at Montmagny, on the south shore of the St. Lawrence. It was later taken apart, carried into the Laurentian mountains, and rebuilt beam by beam on six acres of forest.

Inside, the proportions are the ones a station needs and a house rarely gets: twenty-foot cathedral ceilings, ten-inch hand-cut beams, and a great room that seats a full party of twelve without anyone raising their voice. A wood-burning fireplace anchors one end, a propane fireplace the other.

Outside, the forest does the rest. The deck faces Tremblant across a natural wetland reserve, and deer wander through most weeks. A path behind the house leads to notarized access on Lac Supérieur; the riverside trail starts at the door.

It is quiet in a way that feels remote, and connected in a way that is not. Restaurants and essentials are three minutes away. The lifts are nine.

Four bedrooms with seven proper beds, two full bathrooms and a half, a chef-ready kitchen, and a dining table that seats every guest at once.

The kitchen carries a Nespresso machine and a full-size coffee system, serious cookware and knives, and a covered barbecue station that runs year-round on its own propane. Fiber internet reaches every room; there is a dedicated workspace for the one person who has to take the call.
